The fourth of July

Some words for the fourth of July should be left though, just doing a short memo for later, the highlight of National mall is not only Smithonians but Monuments of the western side, Lincoln place is kind of the sacred place like the temple of the gods, reminding of the period of Greek, Rome, which of before this temple is the monuments for the soldiers participated in the Korean War, Vietnam War.

 

That means the Wars conducted by the US at least after WWII is in the line of the virtues of the US, freedom, Justice, Peace...it's linked to the controversy that the competition with the USSR toward the similar virtue but different from their own.... later...

Obon Festival in Virginia (2017.7.9)

Observing all the cultures of the world is a privilege of staying in the US. Latinix, Korean, and Chinese cultures is relatively easy to be faced with, sometimes walking on the street, hiting the name of stores and restaurants but Japanese is different so this is why I stopped by there.

Obon festival is interesting, fun itself and make me feel the power of culture which is not just mingling with the people that din't know before but melting into an understanding regardless of where one come from, which color one has.

 

Anacostia Museum in DC, Smithsonian

Last weekend, two friends came to here for their work but Sunday is Sunday so that we met and hanging around. The first destination was the Anacostia Museum, its name was from the this place name, the east-southern of DC.

There is not so much object for me but meet friends that I didn't check the information about this museum. This is a place for remembering the Latinx life, their immigrant life in the US, their struggle for a social citizenship, their culture, festivals etc.

The first thing I think is this sentiment as an immigrant, which is very similar to that of Korean, especially when I got to read the writing of one young Latino child. It is about explaing the confusion of identity, saying that 'in school, I need to speak and learn English, but in home, use Spanish and parent and elders worry if I lose the latinx identity', 'I was told that you are not latino in my country but in the US that you are not American'. It seems that most of immigrants suffer and endure the identical problem and the generation gap between the first and the second or more.

And, after this, stopped by the house of Frederic Douglas. His late life, his sencond marrige is interesting, next time allow to write later about this.

It was the first time to face the word, Latinx at the museum. I thought that dut to the prefix, Latin, this is supposed to be the people relaing Latino and, from the suffix, nx, it could be something of meaning of the multiple, remembering the Russian Language. It's right. But the reason why the people use this word was understood after this article. Good Information!

Rites of Passage Ceremony 2017

Before fading feeling that I felt in the Rites of Passage Ceremony 2017, I should write something about this because this is the exact feature of why and what I like the US. Some of the people that I know maybe could make fun of me by saying that you become a pro-America. But I don't care at all since everything has pros and cons,  every character has two sides of a coin or even more.

When I was invited by my friend and before I attend the ceremony, I felt a bit of excitement, thinking of some drama or some image usually shown that, sunny day, chairman's address, and throwing caps over a head after the ceremony. Sorry for saying that interesting point, at least to me, is this dominant image of which most of the main characters were white.

The day, however, was different. Arrived at the place, I noticed something different atmosphere. The people passed by me was one by one, almost no white. I checked the brochure, and I got to know this is one ceremonies for black and latino student among the many graduation events. Oh my gosh! How the university could do this kind of event! The ceremony was full of hope for the future, that was based on respect for the ethnic tradition, solidarity for social progress and emphasis on service for the community. By that time that I watched this graduation ceremony, I got to love Rutgers and honored to be here.

The thing I will remember is that there is no reason that we don't have to be a solid one, but what we need is solid belief that coexist together as the way we are with respect. Thank Liza and congratulation.

Korean Election Day for the people abroad

The day that All Koreans are waiting is coming now and for the people who are outside Korea came about a week early.
Interesting thing today after I entered the place for voting was that I have one paper for stamping cells for presi. candidates and one envelope for putting the paper in.
I thought voting for abroad was counted each place that was votted, but it wasn't and these ballots are going to be sent to Korea. In the 9th of May, all ballots are gathered in asigned place and will be opened together.




After the vote, I stoped by the liberty park. Sunny day made the pictures of Central Railroad of New Jersey(CNRNJ), Manhattan, Ellise island, Statue of Liberty so good. This time I walked along the Hudson though, next time I'll take a ferry and go to Ellis Island Museum of Immigration!

One side of Ellise island belonged to NYC, the other side to NJ.
